2021 BABS Game Plan 3 – Game Strategies
The more we take a deep dive into all the variables affecting the 2021 season, the more we realize what a morass we’ll be facing. What can we take away from the 2020 short season? What can we learn from 2020’s geographic schedule? What can expect from players who didn’t play at all? Will the deadened ball have any effect? How will playing time be redistributed without a universal DH? How many more questions can I ask without answering them?
Truth is, we can take advantage of the chaos by having some type of plan. We may need to rely on educated speculations, but even that will keep us a step ahead of those who are content to let the chaos determine where the chips fall. Thankfully, BABS is all about embracing uncertainty.
This update’s focus is on game strategies related to this year’s player pool for snake and auction drafts, and alternative formats. I’ve written about taking high risk speculation to a new extreme for those willing to toss a 2021 Hail Mary. (The chaos must be real if I’m resorting to football metaphors.) In addition, we have more player history scans and asset group analyses. The BABS Database, Master Spreadsheet and FISH List have ben updated as well.

Looking ahead
In the final March 24 update, we will look at what’s been going on in spring training and see if we need to make any changes to our expectations. We throw out some more players to target, especially those at the very bottom of the player pool. Doug, Pat and I will conduct our annual Longshot Caucus, I’ll share some expert league results and we’ll look ahead to BABS during the regular season. Plus, as always, updates to the database, spreadsheet and FISH List.
Ron, Love all the work you have done.
FPFla was great and told you there I used Portfolio3 along with BABS to identify ideal targets and refine draft strategies for my auction.
Well, combined with LISA, I ended up with the following team – I think I met the criteria with 193/67 H/P split: [13 team mixed, positions as shown, 3-7 keepers for 12 of 13 teams before the auction].
