BABS seems to focus on drafts and the trade-offs between skills / liabilities with the appropriate round to choose a player. But, is the information easily transferrable to auction leagues? I see a value of $8 assigned to Cal Raleigh (for example) and a 9th round optimal selection point (per the FISH List). But, is that a benchmark that I should use in terms of auction bids?
BABS has perhaps more value for auction leagues than in snake draft leagues. In auctions, you can take advantage of profit opportunities at any time, not just in certain rounds. Read more about auction applications in book 3 of The BABS Project, chapter 11.
As for our posted dollar values, they will vary depending upon a variety of factors, most notably the depth of the league. The values on site are rough approximations, but the power of the tool goes beyond the actual dollars. We do not suggest specific bid amounts; we just show you where to fish for profit.
In the example of Cal Raleigh, he is in the same asset group as Kyle Schwarber. In the event that Schwarber is auctioned first, his price can be used as a benchmark for the (P+) skill set. Then you can judge how high to bid up Raleigh based on that benchmark (and the rest of his asset/liability profile). It could be $8. It could be $15, or $5, depending on your particular league and your roster needs.
How can I get the 12-team version of the Master Spreadsheet?
There is no specific 12-team version of the Master Spreadsheet. Aside from the ADPs and dollar values (which are rough estimates anyway), the data is the same no matter the league configuration. Rely on the ranking of players within each asset group – that’s all that’s important.
Doug Gruber mentioned Dansby Swanson as (p, s, a) for his assets. The projections have him as (a). Or am I missing something. In another article Jose Ramirez was listed as (p, s, AV*). The projections have him as (p, AV*) ?
Of all the players you could have chosen, you picked the two that are most on the cusp of borderline BABS ratings. The missing speed (s) ratings for both players appear on my personal spreadsheet, but by the time they grind through the BABS engine, the (s) is gone. I am going to have to force that through for the next update. Dansby’s other missing code is a rounding error. That should be fixed with the February 23 update too.
